Writing has been a passion of mine for many years. When I was growing up, I lived in the library. Books were my escape and my portal to the rest of the world. But as a child I didn’t know writers were ordinary people with an extraordinary passion. I didn’t know writers were people like me.
These days my daughters read prolifically, but many of their friends do not. There’s a good reason for that. Multicultural children don’t see themselves depicted as being relevant in today’s society – as making a difference. They don’t get to be the “heroes.” And yes, while more books are being published that depict children of color, most show us mired in stereotypes.
We are a diverse and wonderful people from continents all over the world. Children of all colors spring from rich cultural and spiritual beginnings.
So I decided to lend my voice and help change the climate. It’s been a wonderful journey and I’ve made great friends along the way.
Welcome to my new life. May you have many blessings on your journey as well!
